  • Building Wealth with Biblical Wisdom - By Luke Petrolekas

At September's Theology on Tap, Peter and Jessica Galopoulos provided an invaluable introductory crash course in good financial stewardship. Money is as prevalent in our society as it was to the Jewish tradition of the old testament and the Roman Empire in Jesus's time. These experiences and the Wisdom of Christ on money are contained within the verses of the Bible and provide us guidance on financial management, prudence, and charity.

  • What is Living Faith? - By Juan Antonio López

In August of this year, I participated in the "Living Faith" Pilgrimage to North Bay. It was organized by Faith Connections and the Federation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie. I wanted to share with others what my experience was like and what I learned about "Living Faith".

My experience at the retreat was in one word: amazing. It taught me a big lesson, and that is that happiness does not lie in achieving what society calls “success".

  • Feminism Needs a Makeover

How Mother Mary Shows Us the True Meaning of Femininity

The Catholic Church views Mother Mary as a great example of many things, including a loving and holy mother and a faithful follower of Jesus. Katie Zeppieri, a speaker at the Theology on Tap West in May, presented Mother Mary as a model of a Christian woman we can aspire to be. As a motivational speaker and a social entrepreneur, Katie works with girls and young women who struggle to love themselves and be confident of who they are. In a world full of distorted and unrealistic images of femininity, Katie has been working to empower these young women and help them recognize their beauty, worth, and potential.

  • Sr. Mechtilde's passion for teaching served her well

Jean Ko Din of The Catholic Register writes,

"When Sr. Mechtilde O’Mara walks into a room of young people, her eyes are like magnets for the quietest person in the crowd. She beelines in their direction and ushers them into the centre of the room..."

  • Spring cleaning reminds young adults of Laudato Si’

Maria Gamboa writes in The Catholic Register: "As the first signs of spring began to appear in Toronto, a sprightly team of young Catholics decided to celebrate Earth Day by picking up trash at Christie Pits Park.

"On April 21, the day before Earth Day, six young adults met at the local park at 10 a.m. to participate in a cleanup organized by Faith Connections. Program director Kataryna Ryba said the goal for the event was to pass on the message to other young adults about the importance of taking care of God’s creation..."

  • Speaking Out: My Lent with a spiritual director

Jacklyn Gilmor writes in The Catholic Register,

"Maybe it’s just me, but it’s so easy to get lost in the little sacrifices and traditions of Lent, forgetting what the real point is behind them.

"One year I’ll give up junk food and my friends won’t hear the end of it, especially when there’s a plate of cookies out or they go out for ice cream. After an agonizing 40 days, I get excited to have sugar again and to celebrate with everyone else. But I think many of us — myself included — have been missing the point.

  • Thank you, Sister Mechtilde!

Since 2010, Sister Mechtilde O’Mara has been the Ministry Director of Faith Connections and is now stepping down from this role. The Board and staff of Fontbonne Ministries are grateful for the wisdom, wide experience and generosity in service that she brought to that role, and we wish her many blessings as she is called to use her gifts in other ways in the Congregation.

  • Meeting Jesus in the Sacrament of His Mercy

Fr. Marcin Serwin spoke about "Sin and Confession" at Theology on Tap West on January 15, hosted by Faith Connections and the Office of Catholic Youth. Here, a young adult shares her experience of the evening:

What comes to your mind when you think of the word "confession"? An excitement and pure joy of telling someone about your transgressions? Probably not. If you are like me, you might have unpleasant feelings of guilt and embarrassment, being reminded of your faults and parts of yourself that you want to hide.

  • O come let us adore...

Wishing you all the grace, hope and joy of this holy season.

We look forward to connecting with you in the new year!

    Happy Advent and merry Christmas,
Sr. Mechtilde, Kataryna, Rob, Jean, Leanne
