Theology on Tap EAST: Is it Wrong to Love Ourselves?

Event Date:
Monday, June 5, 2017 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Community Health Center, the Office of Catholic Youth, and the local parishes invite young adults (19-39) to join us for an evening of thought-provoking conversation on theological topics! Munchies provided, cash bar available - come and bring a friend!
Special guest: Carol Soares, Counsellor and Program Coordinator, Catholic Family Services of Paris.

Is it wrong to love ourselves? Are we ego-based if we hold ourselves in high regard? When does it become a form of self worship? What are the potential effects on our lives (and others) if we do not value ourselves?

There are many who have contemplated these important topics. Carol will explore the possibility that perhaps it is in light of our faith that we discover the tremendous goodness not only of creation, of everything that is, but of our own unique personal existence.

She will discuss healthy ways to grow in self-awareness which also provides benefits to others and our world. Carol will bring awareness to self-value and awareness as a daily process and journey…one that is normally embarked on without conscious consideration and intentional practices.

Carol Soares is a Registered Social Worker who has worked for 18 years in a number of different capacities providing direct service to a diverse scope of individuals, including youth and women. She has been the Coordinator of the Women Helping Women Program at Catholic Family Services since its beginning in June, 2010 as well as providing counselling for women who have experienced abuse. Carol is also an author and enjoys speaking to groups about the subjects and missions that she remains most passionate about. She is married and has three children.
